Last year, it took me ages to score the perfect sun hat because I couldn’t find the right styles anywhere. This summer? They’re EVERYWHERE! And I LOVE it! These hats are so great — practical enough to keep that nose of yours from getting sunburned but chic enough to look stylish with a summer dress or bathing suit (with a bit of retro charm, to boot!)
WALK THE MOON'S DEBUT ALBUM
I first wrote about these gents back in January 2011—at the time, they were BRAND new to the music scene, but watching WTM perform at a tiny college club here in my town, I just knew they were going to make it in a major way. This June marked the release of their debut record and now? NOW these guys (one of whom is a Ball State grad I interviewed for an upcoming story I’m writing over at my day job) are blowing up BIG. Their tunes are infectious—check ‘em out!
HBO's THE NEWSROOM
In another life, I was a news junkie. I majored in journalism in college and, between internships and jobs, worked in the news industry (newspapers) for six years. When I heard Aaron Sorkin was tackling a news drama for HBO this summer, I was all ears. The pilot had me hooked. It brought me right back to my journalism days and made me nostalgic for a time in my life that, until then, I didn’t realize how much I missed. By far one of the smartest shows on TV this summer.
SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN
I gotta admit, I found myself enjoying this flick far more than I thought I would: the special effects are pretty spectacular and Kristen Stewart in this film almost made me forget my disdain for her brooding in the Twilight series. (Did I mention Chris Hemsworth is a HUNKY huntsman? Yowza….why had he never been on my radar before this? haha)
BRINGING UP BEBE
If you have a friend who’s a soon-to-be parent, this book would make for a great read to gift them. The author is an American who finds herself raising her children with her hubby in Paris. She discovers the French have held on to a number of parenting concepts that seem to have flown the coop here in America. Loved all her brilliant insights and, gotta admit, made me all the more wistful for a place I fell in love with visiting two years ago.
