As I shared earlier in the week, my sweet friend Betsy (whom many of you already follow, I’m sure!), took some fabulous maternity photos for me and my hubby last month. To repay the favor, I had asked her if I could shoot a family session for her and her own man, John, and their adorable (and Internet famous) kiddos, Miles and Jocelyn.
Bets said she was in for the idea, but explained that, at 5 and 2, her kids are at an age where a traditional photo shoot would be the equivalent of herding cats. So we brainstormed on it and I suggested the idea of documenting a night out with their family, doing something fun. That’s where miniature golf came into play! If you live in Fort Wayne, Ind., I feel like you can’t claim your residency in the city without a venture out at some point to Putt Putt Golf and Games. To the point where, people in Fort Wayne would never say, “Wanna go to play mini golf?” No…no…no…the question would be “Wanna go to Putt Putt?” I was tickled to think that Miles’ first experience (and Joss’s too!) at Putt Putt would be captured by me.
And OH man did this family have a good time! The kids made the most of the night out, Miles couldn’t get enough of being on the green (he wanted to play a second round!) and the whole family indulged in some yummy treats. Pouring over these images, seeing Betsy and John’s mega-watt smiles around their kids, capturing the youthful exuberance of these children, well… I’m so glad the night turned out the way it did. Bets and John, I hope you love seeing this night out again as much as I did! :) Love you guys!

What a fun night that was! Thank you so much! These are precious!!!! Thank you!!! Love the pic of me and John! And me and Joss! And so many more! Thank you soooo much!
PS Miles’ triumphant cheering is hilarious!!!! Such a great memory captured!!!!
What else can you possibly do when you look at these but SMILE? ‘Cause that’s what I’m doing. Big time. :)
Awwww…cute! I did a photo session like this for my college room mate and I think it might have been some of the best fun mini-golfing (East Coast. ;-) ) I’ve ever had.
Gail that is a wonderful photo shoot memory..thank you so very much.. we are so blessed to have our very own photo gals in our life.. HUGS Grams
Super cute Gail! You perfectly captured their fun little family!
Love these Gail! You captured them perfectly, mega-watt smiles and all!
Oh my goodness! It looks like such a fun night and the photos capture it perfectly! The loving smiles, the victory golf-club in the air, Joss’s ridiculous amount of cuteness- Great job, Gail! Your family is just too adorable, Betsy!
These are perfect! Love, love them! Well done, Gail!!!
Such a sweet family, great shots, Gail! :)
Such a great idea!!! I loved it!!!
Such a good idea for location! My favorite is the one of Betsy helping Joss golf:)
so sweet, gail! the last one is totally my favorite. so cute!
Awwww, these are so fun and adorable!! Love them, and this beautiful family. Great job Gail!
These are just so cute!! I especially like the b/w ones. :) I also love the one of Jocelyn laying on the ball & Miles on his tippy toes! Looks like a really fun night.
Love these pics!! Those kids are absolutely adorable. That Putt Putt brings backs lots of memories of my 4 boys out there.
These are so awesome!!! I love the idea of capturing a family fun night!
Great pictures (love the one where Jocelyn is laying on the ball!) but I have to admit I was super-distracted with the thought that not everyone calls it putt-putting! Really? My mind, it is blown. This is just like me thinking that Pizza Hut is a great place for dinner and everyone in Indianapolis being like, “um, no.”
Ellen-Ha! So true!!!!
PS Gail did an AMAZING job working in the most challenging light EVER!!!!
Love these! And again, Betsy your hair looks awesome. For some reason I adore the one of just Miles’ shoes as he puts. I just think it’s such a cute perspective! But they are all awesome!
Ellen, OMG your comment made me laugh out loud. SO true about both the Putt Putt AND Pizza Hut (I have to eat there every time I’m home and every time we do, my dad has to tell the same waitress the story about how his daughter won’t eat at any other Pizza Hut if it’s not a Fort Wayne Pizza Hut ;) ) And Trace, her hair DID look great! Also, laying down for feet shots? Not as easy to do when you’re 7 months pregnant! haha
Such a fun time for the King family! Great images Gail! And how in the world did you get all of those shots with a little man in your tum tum? Wow! Joss and Miles are so adorable and fun! xoxo
Love the idea of capturing a family night out. Betsy…your family is beautiful as always.
Gail, you did a SUPER job with these. Great angles (I can’t believe you got down on the ground like that when you’re pregnant) and love the little sun flare in the corner of the one with Betsy and Joss. The one with Joss laying on the ball made me laugh. What a gift – they will cherish these forever. And Betsy, your family is just adorable.
ohhhh LOVE this!
Look at Betsy’s sweet family!! What a fun session with so much joy. Love them but especially the last shot. So great!
LOVE LOVE LOVE these photographs! :) You’re such a talented photographer! This style session so reminds me of Tara Whitney! (We blog readers all know your love for Cali!) Photographing families exactly as they are is such a beautiful thing! :)
