We’ve passed the expiration date for July but trust me when I say this image was shot in its waning days. My family (parents, three siblings and all our kids) spent the past week at a delightful lake cottage on Magician Lake in southwestern Michigan. It’s a small lake (one of a chain in the area known as Sister Lakes), found last December when my siblings and I hatched a master plan to whisk my parents off for a true family vacation to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
We had a blast together as a family—making great meals, playing lots of games, ribbing one another—and I was thrilled to get to know my nieces and nephews that much better (once they enter the teen years, bonding can be a challenge, so it was so rewarding to get so much facetime with all of them). While the weather could have been warmer while we were there (we all wished to swim more but those waters were chilly and a couple of the days filled with grey skies) I definitely accomplished what I aimed to do—RELAX. Which, after the month that was my July—with a crazy workload shooting new commercials for Ball State, a related work trip to NYC, and a wonderful wedding that kept me busy shooting and editing—was sorely needed.
Also cherished during this past week? The extra time I got to love on my boy. Dean is growing SO fast and I was thrilled to get to share him with all his sweet cousins (who are totally smitten with him).
After going dark and staying off line for much of the past 7 days, I’m back and ready for my August to kick into gear. I’m still tired (it’s true what they say—once you have kids, you don’t necessarily take vacations…you take trips….which require gobs of planning and STUFF to accompany you), but I’m basking in the memories of some super sweet times with my family as this final weekend of vacation wraps up.
