AbouttheSite

I wanted an online presence that was no longer just about my photography. It needed to be a place for people to get to explore, to really know me. To know I’m more than the images I create. Yes, I’m an artist. But I’m also an explorer, a discoverer, a nurturer and a writer. All of this is what makes me whole … what makes me, well, me.

Writer
Maybe you already knew this about me, but I've been a professional writer for 10 years now; it's about time I start sharing more of a career I'm passionate about with all of you.
Photographer
Photography is the next great professional love of my life. Nothing I've done creatively has brought the same artistic fulfillment as capturing a wedding day or a special family moment.
What I'm Loving
A. What I'm Loving
New bands, new books, new films and TV shows ... I love discovering pop culture and, over the past three years, I've shared a lot of my monthly favorites with all of you.
MY PHOTO PHILOSOPHY
When I take your photograph, I don't bring with me a bunch of fancy lights or backdrops or props. I'm not THAT kind of photographer.

Instead, give me a great patch of natural light. Give me you and any loved ones you want to bring along. Give me a chance to break down the awkwardness that often comes with having your picture taken. Let me show you photography doesn't have to be a painful process of fake smiles and forced poses. That it can be natural and candid and—trust me on this one—even fun.
B. Wedding Stories
I believe everybody loves a good love story. That, whether they realize it or not, everybody HAS a good love story. They just don’t always know it should be told. And that’s where I come in.
C. Family
Nick and I are welcoming a son into our lives in 2012. You can be sure this online space of mine will become all the more important to me as I chronicle the milestones of motherhood and our new status as a family of three.

D. Longform Writing
Here's a little secret: I enjoy writing fiction. Until now, I've kept this work to myself. Short scenes with characters that are figments of my imagination, these stories are nothing more than "shitty first drafts," as beloved writer Anne Lamott might call them. And yet, with a new platform for their display through this site, suddenly I wonder what it is I'm waiting for...why fear is holding me back from putting them out there. Maybe now is the time to share some of them with you.
Weddings
A. Weddings
Classic. Modern. Cool. One of my favorite images from my parents' wedding is a photograph of them exiting the church during the rice toss. Why do I love it so? Because it could have been taken yesterday, not 40-plus years ago. That timeless feel is what I strive for when photographing weddings.
B. Portraits
How do you want to remember a portrait session: Frustrated watching someone force your child to say cheese? Or joyful knowing your photographer captured a favorite image in which you're tickling your child? If I had that last image of me with my parents, it'd still be the one up in a frame. Won't you let me take it for you?

Travel

What I love most about traveling is how it fills my heart with a level of gratitude no other experience affords me. My cup runneth over when I have the opportunity to see parts of the country (nay, the world), I never thought I would. All I can say is I never ever want to take such opportunities—past, present and future—for granted.
